What's in your make up bag?

I have been wearing make up since jr. high, back then it was clear mascara and Dr. Pepper Lip Smackers. If you asked me back then I thought I was hot stuff with that combo, I wore those by choice not by parental demands. My freshman year my mom actual refused to buy me clear mascara anymore, so then we went through the long and tedious process of finding a mascara. It took me two years and a numerous amount of my parents money, to find the right one. I have two mascara's that I love one that cost to much for to have very often, they are Lancome's Definicils and Maybelline's Lash Discovery.  Foundation was even worse then mascara I still haven't found one that I am in love with, for daily use I use Clinque moisture sheer tint, if I am going out I use Maybelline mineral power. I tried Bare Essentials and liked, it I just can't afford it that is what lead me to Maybelline's mineral power. I need to find a new eyeliner, for the longest time I used Mary Kay's eyeliners but I moved and I don't have a sales rep. anymore. So if you have in recommendations for good eyeliner please pass it on.  I found my perfect lipstick when it came in a free gift my sophomore year of college Clinque's Pink Beach. I will wear it and then add lip gloss if I want to give it some upmh. Then I use lip gloss through out the day I have tried quite a few and I haven't found one that I am in love with. And I am going to let you in on a little secret I rarely buy my everyday eye shawdows, most of them are the free gift with purchase. I love the colors most of the time I wear cream colored, brown and pinks. I am not afraid to take risks with my eye color, I have black, turquise and purple in my makeup bag right now. Now I have told you about my make up bag so what else can I do but show it to you. Also if you have any recs please feel free leave them in the comments.

This weeks theme is Fall. This is past week fall is arriving full force in Texas and I can't remember the last time I remember the last time we had a really fall that last longer then a week.  Fall to me means open doors and windows, leaves changing, being outside, and beautiful things (weeds).

Next week the challenge is red, wish me luck as I wonder what to photograph.

Tyler, Texas

We went back to my husbands home town, last weekend for a baby shower. It was a gorgeous weekend in East Texas, the sun was shining, the breeze was blowing, and we were surrounded by family. I miss be close to family, as someone who grew up with a large extend family all with in a stones throw of my home not being near family is tough. I don't know how many times I have or will day that, but I need family close they are my rock.

The shower it's self was nice, just a little too long it lasted over 2 hours. It started late, we played 3 games and then gifts. Ian was great he never once fussed but I could tell he was tired of being there and people passing him around. Poor guy didn't get to nap like he should have on Saturday I don't think he got a decent nap till around 4 after being woke up on accident at 6 am by Papaw. Sunday wasn't a good nap day either but the trooper he was he never complained.  I don't know how I got so lucky.

We have to thank Aunt Lauren for purchasing Ian his first winter coat from  The Children's Place and two awesomely cute shirts from gymboree (pics to come). I also got my hair cut while we were there, the stylist took off more length then I wanted but I still like it. All in all it was a good trip we got to catch up with family and The Johnson's. You can check out more pictures from our trip.

Last Weekend

We were busy bees in the Gregory household, everything from PMS to Oct. Fest (yes in Sept.). We went to Oct. fest in Addison on Fri. night with a bunch of friends from college. Poor Ian said that was a long night but I have to give him credit for being a trooper. We were out til after 10:30, he was all smiles and laughs until we got in the car to go home then he started telling us he was tired in his angry chatter.  My poor husband woke up Saturday to PMS Bobbi, poor poor man. I was an emotional basket case, at one point in the day I was to doubt his love for me and the baby, and there was no chocolate in  the house so that made it all worse. {I finally got some chocolate today due to my friend Abby bring me a Frosty (while eating I was thinking of Beth and Erin and the twitter conversation they had yesterday).}  Sunday we went to Plano's Balloon Festival, where Ian was a hit. On the free shuttle from the free parking area both times people would just talk Ian's ears off. He wasn't too interested in the balloons, but man oh man he can people watch with the best of them.  I wore him both Fri and Sun and both times, I got lots of looks, I am guessing babywearing is not yet that popular in Dallas as it is else where.  Also while at Oct. Fest so jerk told me that they have surgery to remove them now.  I wish I could have told him off but I didn't get the chance to. At both festival combined I counted less the 5 people baby wearing and more strollers then I can count. I think I have rambled on enough since it is 2 am and I am no longer making any sense.

The theme this week is happiness and as it is also international babywearing week. I thought that I would post pictures that make me feel happy. Casey actually took these pictures yesterday while we were at wal-mart getting Ian some formula. Yes before you ask those are mittens on the top of the hat. We saw that they had winter hats out and let Ian pick his out for this winter, so of course I stuck it on his head. Since he picked the one Casey thought was ugly.

ABC'S Modern Family

The name alone made me want to tune in for the premiere, but the first episode has me hooked. I loved the wit and cynicism through out the episode.

Jay is by far my favorite character so far and his trying to "help" his family. His step son Manny, I think that with a little more development is going to end up turning in to the show stealer. The few lines he had were awesome. I hope that ABC is smart enough to grow that story line. The one thing that I hope changes is Phil's trying to be the cool parent that tries to hard for his kids to accept him.

Overall I think that Modern Family is a hit. It is on ABC at 9/8c Wednesdays, make sure to tune in.

Baby Orajel Review and Giveaway

      *Winner chosen by Random.org
                          Erin
I will be contacting her by email, if she hasn't respond in 48 hours I will choose a new winner.

As a mom I worry about the oral care of Ian on a daily basis. As soon as he was old enough to have his gums brushed I purchased some of the Baby Orajel tooth and gum paste with a one of the fingertip brushes. Ian was not keen on the fingertip brush at all. Through SheBlogs, I was able to try Baby Orajel tooth and gum paste with a brush and Baby Orajel Cooling Cumber.

I was so excited to try both of these products and to see Ian's reaction. Well he took having his teeth brushed with a toothbrush better then I ever imagined. When he sees me get his toothbrush he starts smiling and laughing. We brush our teeth together everyday in the morning after breakfast, Ian and I keep our toothbrushes by the kitchen sink. I do this so that Ian can sit in his high chair and watch me brush my teeth also. The paste is fluoride free so that makes it safe to swallow. Instead of fluoride the active ingredient is Microdent that is safe to swallow but still helps prevent plaque build up.

I think Ian's new love though is the Baby Orajel Cooling Cumber, he will see us get it out of the fridge and will stop whatever he is doing and runs (crawls as fast as a run) to me going bite (ba ba ba). If by some chance we leave the tube some where he can see it, he tries to get it with more intensity then he shows for anything else. I love the fact that it has cumber extract that also helps to instantly cool the gums.

I am also lucky enough to be able to give to my readers a set of Baby Orajel Tooth and Gum Paste and the Baby Orajel Cooling Cumber. The winner will be chosen by random on Tuesday Sept. 29; to enter you need to leave a comment about why you would like to try these products.

International Babywearing Week 2009

I am going to start this post out with a little secret when I was pregnant with Ian, I said that I would not wear my children, boy have I ate those words. I am so sad that I didn’t start wearing Ian till he was almost 3 months old.  I can’t believe that I missed out on wearing my first baby as a newborn.  Lesson learned we hardly go a day with out him being worn for at least a few minutes even if it is just so we can take FootFoot for a walk.  Wearing my baby makes getting things done around here so much easier (except when he tries to "help" me fold laundry).

As you have gathered I do wear my son, so I am going to tell what carriers we use, Ergo, Ellaroo Mei Hip Carrier (this was the first carrier that I had that caused us to fall in love with baby wearing), and a Peanut Shell.
Do you know the benefits of wearing your baby?  Do you know there are many different types of carriers that you can use to wear your baby? You can find answers to these questions and more at Babywearing International.

Now the question is do you wear your baby?

Wear can find some babywearing themed contest this week :
If you know of more please add them to the comments so I can add them to the list.

This week’s theme is Macro (super close). This was harder then you think. I took so many pictures this week and hardly any of them came out the way I would have wanted. I had some cool mistakes, and trying to decide if I should post one of those or try to get an awesome non-mistake. Then I decided that some mistakes are meant to be made (taken). That they actually turn in to the best surprises (Ian). So here are some of my best mistakes for this you capture (not in life those are for another post).

Tell it to me Thursday

The gash on Ian's chin is when he was first becoming mobile about 6 weeks ago. This picture was taken first thing the next morning. He is not a mornign person already what I am going to do when he becomes a teenager? If you are a regular reader look how much he has changed in just six weeks, sad momma.

I am ashamed

Has anybody else heard of AshleyMadison.com? That advertises cheating within your marriage is a good thing. What the hell, this makes me sick. I was raised in a home where one of the parents wasn't always faithful (that doesn't make me love said parent any less). Cheating does not make a marriage stronger it only hurts it. Once one of the partners cheats the trust is gone.

I am more ashamed that shows like Ellen, Oparh, Dr. Phil, GMA, and Larry King have featured this shameless site. It was also prominently featured on my local news tonight because one of the churches around here is going to debate the founder. There is no need to say the sites name more then the churches name. Sadly this site has over 3 million members. What is America coming to when there is no shame in promoting infidelity? What are your thoughts on this crap?

FootFoot

I fell asleep last night at 7, so I woke up at 1 unable to go back to sleep. What does one do when they wake up in the middle of the night? I could clean but I am afraid that I might wake up my boys. I could go pack for our up coming move, same possible out come. So here I am sitting here with FootFoot, watching bad TV reruns. I don’t know why FootFoot is sitting here with me she is very angry that I am not in still in bed. She is not one that likes having her sleep disturbed. She doesn’t get out of bed before 8 am unless there is a good reason. Most mornings after getting up to change Ian and feed him his first bottle and I come back to find her taking up most of the bed like she is queen. All in all though she is a great dog. Last Wednesday when Ian and I went out with Gabe for his birthday when we got home FootFoot was so excited to that we were home. You would have thought we had been gone a week the way she was Ian. She is so the best dog, she lets her brother crawl all over her and she just sighs and lets him have fun.Who would have thought that 3 years ago when I brought her home, after be told numerous times not to. That she would turn into such an awesome pooch.

Weekend

The weekend here in the Gregory household was peaceful. We are working on starting to pack, yes that is right we are moving the weekend before halloween. We are moving closer to Casey's work, he will be able to walk to work if he wanted, if he had a bike I know he would bike to work it is that close. It is the nicest of apartments but we are getting a place 500 square feet bigger and less rent then we pay now. I don't know why everything is so much higher here in Plano. I love the fact that the breakfast area is a sunroom. Other then packing we have started gathering clothes for Ian to have this winter, we didn't get a whole lot of stuff at the showers unlike some people I know who got clothes to dress their kids through their first year. So we went to Target and Wal-Mart. I was disappointed in the selection at our local Wal-Mart. They hadn't even started to put out the fall/winter clothes for 12 month or smaller clothes, yet above that size everything was out. When I asked why the girl I asked didn't even speak enough english to understand my question. Casey disagrees and says that she was just stupid. So on we went to our local Target the one on this side of Plano is not a super Target. We found the selection there a little better, they at least had clothes in Ian's size (I know the selection was smaller due to the store size). The best find was a shirt that won't fit Ian for a while but we had to have it, a Smurf's shirt for only $4. Sunday was spent cleaning and packing. I hate moving but you do what you got to do when you only have one car. At least we have started packing early. Also if you live in the metroplex and can help us move, we will glad accept your help. Here is a picture of our floorplan.

On Comments

I am going to tell you that a fellow blogger took the words I wanted to write about comments and wrote them so well that I am posting her words again, with permission from Beth at:

Photobucket

You should go and check her out this post isn't even the tip of the iceberg, of her writing talent.

I have had many discussions this week with various bloggers about the importance of commenting and how much they mean to a blogger.  We all understand that sometimes readers do not comment because maybe they are in a hurry, maybe they are not in the mood or maybe they just don’t think that what they have to say really matters.
As a blogger, let me enlighten you on the subject of commenting.  I hope that I can encourage you to begin commenting on blogs (not just mine) that you read and also express my gratitude to those readers and fellow bloggers who always or most of the time, make it a point to leave a comment.
I will not speak for ALL bloggers, but I will speak for most, commenting is our payday.  Very few of us receive a handsome salary (I’ve always wanted to say handsome salary) or ANY salary for blogging.  Which is fine, many of us blog for the love of blogging, not for money.  Some people actually lose money because they pay to keep their blog and pay for their design but do not receive any financial kickbacks.  It’s a hobby, something we enjoy.  Sometimes it’s hard work, sometimes it’s painful, there are so many reasons to keep a blog, but there is one thing all bloggers have in common, it takes our time, it comes from our hearts, (I hope) and most of the time, bloggers are proud of what they have written.
How do we get paid?  Through your comments.  A comment is more than just a comment, it’s feedback, it’s conversation, it’s appreciation.  You not only hold our "paycheck" in your hands, you also hold our longevity.  A blogger who is appreciated is more likely to be a happy blogger and a happy blogger blogs for a long time and doesn’t stop because they are under appreciated or frustrated.
The best way I can explain the importance to you, is with this question:  Can you imagine wanting to share a story, a thought or a belief with forty people and preparing what you had to say, choosing the right words and nervously approaching them and then saying what you had to say, you say it just as you planned and you wait for the response and the person you are talking to listens to you, looks at you and just walks away.  Without a smile, a frown – no reaction.  They just walk away.  And out of the forty people you say this to, only one replies to you.
That’s how it feels for a blogger.  But that’s the way blogging is and we know this.  Do I always leave a comment on blogs that I visit?  No.  But I should do it more often, and I will.
You may think that what you have to say doesn’t matter or your words are insignificant.  You may find it hard to believe, but your words are important, they make a difference.  Every comment that comes through my blog, is read and appreciated and I know I am not the only blogger who feels this way.  I KNOW THIS.
After reading all of this, I hope you don’t feel like you can’t go to blogs without commenting – because you can.  Readership is also very important, I justed wanted to portray for you how wonderful it is to share our thoughts and life experiences with you AND receive some form of feedback.  If you are still feel uncomfortable, that’s okay.  I promise.
So, for all bloggers today, I hope you click on that comment button and say "great post" or "well said" on every blog that you visit.
And I hope you feel good about leaving a comment, because that blogger feels so good that you took the time to leave one.

Gabe

Gabe, Uncle Gabe and Ian's favorite name for him Ga. Turned 21 on Wednesday and we went out to celebrate. He is the great friend who deserved to have a great day, heck he deserves more then one great day a year. He is the kind of friend that if you call him in the middle of the night overcome with post partum emotions (not that I have done that ok maybe a couple times) he tries to make you feel better, with out making you feel even crazier, he understands why you called him instead of waking up your sleep deprived husband who has to work the next day.  The friend who makes sure you and your husband has a childfree night every once in a while. He is a great guy, who is the kind of friend you want to have for life.
A few little tidbits about Uncle Ga:
  • He is an Eagle Scout
  • He works at a movie theater
  • He is dating Aunt Abby
  • He drives a big truck
  • And he gives great hugs

Ian's Tries His Hand Photography

Photobucket

This is Ian's first photography, he took it the other day when I happened to be filming him and his Daddy on our other camera. I hope all enjoy.

Next week is Macro, so wish me luck.

Cloth done our way

My diaper stash, I have been cloth diapering for about 2 months. I love it, the only thing that I would change is that I would have bought more then 4 diaper covers. My stash right now consits of 24 prefolds, 2 fleece fitteds, and 4 Thirsties Duo Snap Covers. Oh and a Rumparooz G1 one size aplix in fire engine.  I don't understand why anyone who stays home who has the means to wash diapers, doesn't cloth diaper. It saves money, it is better for the environment, and it is better for babies skin.

In the beginning we had the hardest time trying to figure out a way to cloth diaper at night. It took about 6 weeks to finally find something that worked for us. We use a fleece fitted stuffed with the doubler it came with and a prefold folded up inside of the diaper(not stuffed in the diaper) then a cover on top of that. This works great as long as he doesn't sleep more then about 8 1/2 to 9 hours then it starts to leak. During the day we use just prefolds and covers and love it. We can't go over about 3 hours but that is ok. Now the Rumparoozs was a gift and I can't stand it every time we have used it leaks after just having it on a few minutes. Ian is not a heavy wetter but it just doesn't work for us.

So for  what we have we make it work and love doing. The laundry is bad I actually like washing cloth diapers. I have a since of pride of a job well done when I take them down of the line. So if you are thinking about doing cloth go for it.

Yo Baby

How sad is it that my seven month old knows what the camera is doing, for a good chunk of the video he keeps looking at it. The camera was sitting on the widow seal with no one behind it. Please ignore me at the end, that was supposed to be a joke for my mom but I can't figure out how to edit it out. So please enjoy.

Bissell LIttle Green

Bissell is having a giveway through Momspark.net, and I could desperatley use it. With FootFoot and Ian running around on the carpet all day new stains appear in the blink of an eye. So wish me luck, cause otherwise my carpets will stay dirty cause I can't convinece Casey how badly we need one.

This Morning

This morning was one of those mornings you want to bottle up and have every morning like. Ian woke up at six wanting to be changed and a bottle and Casey got up with out waking me up. As soon as Ian was done he went back to bed and so Casey came back to bed and we cuddled our way back to sleep. When Ian decided it was time for the day to start at 9 am I went and got him and he had a bottle and breakfast. After he was finished we went and attacked Casey in bed. We spent the next 45 minutes as a family laying in bed playing with Ian and FootFoot. Why can't all mornings be as relaxed and easy going?

Ms. Single Mama Uncensored

I was lucky enough to win a copy of  Ms. Single Mama Uncensored.  I enjoyed it from the first page to the last. I have to say though I have had to read it twice to truly get the feelings that she writes about, that is because I have been going through a funk and just wasn't really into it the first time. The second time though I couldn't be pried away from my computer.

Alaina leaves no stone unturned in revealing the transformation she has undergone to get where she is now. She doesn't sugar coat the hard times or the good times. I wish that her book would have been around a lot earlier in my life it would have helped me avoid some nasty siuations that I have been it. If I had the money I would give it to all my single friends.

You can purchase a copy from Ms. Single Mama, for the very resonable price of $14.95.

This weeks you capture theme is old signs. I can't remember which bar on Northgate this sign hangs in but If I had to guess I would say it hangs in the chicken. I spent enough time in those bars I should be able to tell but it has been a few years. Sorry Patrick I cropped you out. Next weeks theme is to photograph something you have never photographed before so wish me luck and see you next week.

Whats in your water

I didn't realize until recently reading an article that had run in the New York Times about how many things are in our drinking water. The chemicals we use to make our yards greener and weed free are often in the water you or your family consume. How much is to much?

Quoting the article that ran on Aug 22:
Officials at the Environmental Protection Agency say Americans are not exposed to unsafe levels of atrazine. They say that current regulations are adequate to protect human health, and that the doses of atrazine coming through people’s taps are safe — even when concentrations jump.

But some scientists and health advocates disagree. They argue that the recent studies offer enough concerns that the government should begin re-examining its regulations. They also say that local water systems — which have primary responsibility for the safety of drinking water — should be forced to monitor atrazine more frequently, in order to detect short-term increases and warn people when they occur.

Do you drink your water straight from the tap, bottled, or filtered? We used to use a pur pitcher until Ian was born and then we couldn't keep it filled and went back to drinking tap water, but after reading this article I am reconsidering that idea.

When I came across this distubing information on she blogs it was accompnied with the information about Zuvo water purators and how they process the water in a five step system. The system is pricey but it might be worht the money if i wasn't constatly having to fill a pitcher or having somethign attached to my faucet that makes washing dishes impossible.

This post was written so that I could get my husband a zuvo water canteen.
